"Merit Nath-Göbl is well on her way making a career as a soprano".
(Aachener Zeitung, Dr V. Müller, 04.03.2023)
She made her debut in Wagner in spring 2024 as Ortlinde in Die Walküre at the Leipzig Opera (mus.director Ulf Schirmer with the Gewandhausorchester, directed by Rosamunde Gilmore). This was followed by engagements at the Saarland State Theatre (mus. director Sébastien Rouland, director Alexandra Szemerédy/Magdolna Parditka) for Walküre and for Strauss' Elektra in Leipzig (mus. director Christoph Gedschold, Gewandhaus Orchestra, directed by Peter Konwitschny) followed. In 2025 you can watch her perform as a shepherd in Tosca and as Aksinja in Lady Macbeth of Mzensk in Leipzig.
The young soprano also sings italian bel canto repertoire, such as in the summer of 2023 at the young opera house Schloss Weikersheim in Donizetti's L'elisir d'amore as Gianetta (music. director Fausto Nardi, director Jakob Peters- Messer) and at the Master Festival Brescia 2022 in Italy as Tosca (Sergio Baietto with the Master Orchestra).
In 2023 she sang Dido from Dido and Aeneas in the Blackbox in Leipzig under the musical direction of Ullrich Pakusch and the director Kobie van Rensburg.
In 2022 she sang the role of Marie from Smetana's The Bartered Bride and Dido from Dido and Aeneas at the Dresden University of Music.
Internationally, the young singer has been invited to Italy, the Czech Republic, Austria, Switzerland and Sweden.
Merit Nath-Göbl is a Yehudi Menuhin scholarship holder, Bayreuth scholarship holder 2023 and Germany scholarship holder 2019.
She has also won prizes at several prestigious competitions, including the international Richard Wagner Young Talent Award 2022, the Euregio Vocal Competition 2016 and, as a teenager, the Jugend musiziert competition at regional, national and state level in 2014.
She is studying for her Meisterklasse degree at the Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy Leipzig University of Music and Theatre with Prof. Brigitte Wohlfarth, where she successfully finished her Master's degree. She completed her Bachelor's degree in 2022 at the Carl Maria von Weber University of Music Dresden with Prof. Hendrikje Wangemann.
With a great love of learning, she enjoys continuing her education at masterclasses with Christiane Iven, Hedwig Fassbender, Thomas Cadenbach, KS Olaf Bär, KS S. Stolpe-Bonk, Prof. Yamina Maamar, among others.
At the age of eleven, she sang her first leading role as the young King David in the production Der verlorene Sohn by Andreas Mücksch under the direction of Stefan Iseke. She received her basic musical training at the Düren Music School with Wolfgang Tombeux (singing), Ina Otte (piano) and Herbert Nolte (accordion).
Her artistic streak became apparent early on. She began writing poems in seventh grade and composed a jingle in eighth grade during her internship at Akkordeon Manufaktur Klingenthal, which was purchased for the manufactory's telephone waiting loop. Merit Nath-Göbl loves classical music and is not afraid to push boundaries. In her school days, she collaborated with two rappers and recorded a love song where she wrote the lyrics for the refrain and recorded it.
As a teenager, she wrote songs with friends in a school band and released a CD.
It is important to Merit Nath-Göbl to do good with music. She regularly performs at benefit concerts.
