Merit Nath-Göbl
"Merit Nath-Göbl is well on her way (...) to making a career for herself." (Aachener Zeitung, Dr. V. Müller, March 4, 2023)
This young opera singer captivates audiences not only in mezzo-soprano roles but also in the German Zwischenfach, such as Senta (Flying Dutchman by R. Wagner).
Her voice is exemplified by a wide-ranging repertoire that includes roles such as Orlofsky (Die Fledermaus), Irmentraut (Der Waffenschmied), Gertrud (Hänsel und Gretel), Ortlinde (Die Walküre), and Senta (Der fliegende Holländer).
In the 2026/27 season, Merit Nath-Göbl will be heard at Oper Leipzig as Mascha and Prilepa in Pique Dame (Tchaikovsky) and will make her debut as Annina in La Traviata (Verdi). Most recently, she sang—among other roles—Aksinja in Lady Macbeth of Mtsensk (D. Shostakovich) and the Confidante in Elektra (R. Strauss). Merit Nath-Göbl is also recognized in the Bel Canto repertoire, such as Gianetta in L’elisir d’amore (Donizetti).
She has worked with, among others, Nelson Andris (currently Boston Symphony Orchestra, Gewandhausorchester Leipzig), Ana Skryleva (Opus Klassik 2024 winner), Christoph Gedschold (currently Opera Leipzig), Tim Fluch (currently Staatsoper Berlin, Volksoper Wien), Ulf Schirmer (Oper Leipzig), and Thomas Leo Cadenbach (currently Volksoper Wien).
She is the recipient of numerous prestigious competition prizes and scholarships. These include the Bayreuth Scholarship and the International Richard Wagner Young Talent Prize, as well as the Deutschlandstipendium and the Yehudi Menuhin Scholarship.
Alongside her classical artistic career, Merit Nath-Göbl is also passionate about jazz and soul. For years, she performed with her own band, interpreting her own songs as well as pop and jazz pieces. Furthermore, she is open to collaborations with artists from other musical genres, such as rap (planned for 2026). She greatly enjoys the fusion of diverse musical worlds, even though her classical roots always remain her main focus.
She is currently pursuing her studies in the master class of Prof. Brigitte Wohlfarth at the University of Music and Theatre "Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy" Leipzig. She completed her Bachelor's degree at the University of Music "Carl Maria von Weber" Dresden. She received her foundational training at the Düren Music School under Wolfgang Tombeux and Ina Otte. Driven by a genuine joy for learning, she is dedicated to her ongoing professional development, participating in masterclasses with—among others—Prof. Brigitte Wohlfarth, Christiane Iven, and Hedwig Fassbender.
Merit Nath-Göbl places great importance on using music to do good and performs regularly for charitable causes.
