"Merit Nath-Göbl is well on her way making a career".
(Aachener Zeitung, Dr V. Müller, 04.03.2023)
The young opera singer performs in the dramatic mezzo-soprano and soprano repertoire. Her singing led her to renowned opera houses at an early age. She has worked with, among others, Nelson Andris (currently with the Boston Symphony Orchestra and the Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra), Ana Skryleva (winner of the Opus Klassik 2024 award), Christoph Gedschold (currently with the Leipzig Opera), Tim Fluch (currently with the Berlin State Opera an Vienna Volksoper), Ulf Schirmer (Leipzig Opera), and Thomas Leo Cadenbach (currently with the Vienna Volksoper).
Most recently, at the Leipzig Opera, she sang roles such as the Dew Fairy (Hänsel und Gretel by Humperdinck), Aksinya (Lady Macbeth of Mtsensk by Shostakovich), Masha/Prilepa (The Queen of Spades by Tchaikovsky), and the Confidante (in Strauss's Elektra). Merit Nath-Göbl is also at home in Belcanto repertoire, for example as Gianetta in L’elisir d’amore (at the Young Opera Schloss Weikersheim). Her voice is represented by the roles of Ortlinde in Die Walküre (at the Leipzig Opera and the Saarland State Theatre) and Senta (Paulinum with the Leipzig University Orchestra). She is equally at home in Mezzo roles such as Orlofsky (New Year’s Eve Gala at the Dresden Zwinger).
In January 2026, she performs Irmentraut in A. Lortzing’s Der Waffenschmied at the Rudolstadt Theatre. In May and June, she will make her debuts as Colombina (Arlecchino by Busoni) and Zita (Gianni Schicchi by Puccini).
She is a prizewinner of numerous prestigious competitions and scholarships, including Jugend musiziert, the Euregio Vocal Competition, and the Deutschlandstipendium. She was recently awarded both a Yehudi Menuhin Scholarship and a Bayreuth Scholarship. In 2023, she won the International Richard Wagner Young Talent Prize.
She is currently studying in the master class of Professor Brigitte Wohlfarth at the Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy University of Music and Theatre, where she also earned her master's degree. She completed her bachelor's degree at the Carl Maria von Weber University of Music Dresden. Her early musical training took place at the Düren Music School with Wolfgang Tombeux and Ina Otte.
She enjoys continuing her musical education, including participating in masterclasses with Professor Brigitte Wohlfarth, Christiane Iven, and Hedwig Fassbender.
Merit Nath-Göbl is committed to using music for charitable purposes and regularly performs for charity.
